As I think any nutritionist will testify; “is this good or bad for me?” is a common question we get asked by friends and family about food. Usually is it just as the food is about to enter the persons mouth on the end of their fork!
If you even have to ask that question to someone, chances are you both know the answer.
Fact is you should not think of food as either ‘good’ of ‘bad’. You should think of food as somewhere on a continuum with bad on the left and good on the right.
Bad ——————-OK——————–Good
However this is still a very crude model to use as a basis for choosing what food to eat. This is because the nutritional needs of different people, and importantly at different times, differs greatly.
You need to apply it back to your enjoyment of the food or beverage also.
I don’t think you should deprive yourself of a food you absolutely love, just make sure your goals are matched by what is going in your mouth.
For example, using the above diagram I would suggest you eat anything above the curved line as this habit is more sustainable and ‘real’ than the commonly held and prescribed belief of eat only above the horizontal red line.
